Valtra production at Suolahti factory to exceed 10,000 tractors in 2003 SE

18.12.2003

Valtra will manufacture around 10,200 tractors this year at its Suolahti factory in Finland. This is the first time ever that annual production at Suolahti has exceeded 10,000 tractors.

This year’s 10,000th tractor was delivered today by salesperson Isto Kumpu-Huhtala to Antti Kannonlahti, a farmer and contractor from Jalasjärvi, Finland.
Production at the Suolahti factory has grown rapidly in the last ten years; in 1992 only 2357 tractors were manufactured. The production of over 10,000 tractors has been made possible by the factory extension that was completed last summer. The capacity of the factory is today around 12,000 tractors a year. The assembly plant employs two shifts that manufacture around 50 tractors a day.
This has also been a busy year for the Valtra factory in Brazil, where approximately 9100 tractors will be manufactured this year. This is a ten percent increase from last year, when 8300 were manufactured in Brazil.
Approximately a quarter of the tractors manufactured in Suolahti are sold in Finland, while 15 percent are exported to France and 10 percent to Sweden. Last summer’s heat wave in Europe had a negative impact on agricultural investments. However, sales elsewhere – including the order for 500 tractors from Iran – have increased production.
Valtra’s Suolahti factory has manufactured tractors according to the customer order system for over ten years. This means that every tractor manufactured in Suolahti has a buyer even before it enters the assembly line.
